Od roku 1983 mieszka w Niemczech, od 1994 w Berlinie. Skończyła studia slawistyki i germanistyki na Uniwersytecie Ruhry w Bochum. Wiele lat pracowała w Instytucie Slawistyki Uniwersytetu Humboldtów w Berlinie, gdzie uzyskała habilitację, a także jako visiting professor na Uniwersytecie Szczecińskim. W 2017 roku wydała biograficzną powieść o Komornickiej/Właście zatytułowaną Inna od siebie, nominowaną do Nagrody Miasta Warszawy. B. Helbig była również dwukrotnie nominowana do Nagrody Literackiej Nike: za powieść Niebko (Kleine Himmel), oraz za zbiór opowiadań Enerdowce i inne ludzie (Ossis und andere Leute). Za powieść Niebko otrzymała w Wiedniu nagrodę „Złota Sowa”. Na podstawie jej satyrycznej powieści Anioły i świnie w Berlinie (Engel und Schweine) prof. Janina Szarek wystawiła spektakl w Berlinie. B. Helbig współtworzy podcast literacki Literandka w radiu Cosmo (RBB). Niebawem ukaże się jej nowa powieść. B. Helbig oferuje także kursy twórczego pisania i mentoring pisarski.

Seit 1983 lebt sie in Deutschland, seit 1994 in Berlin. Sie studierte Slawistik und Germanistik an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, promovierte dort und war dann am Institut für Slawistik der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin tätig. Dort habilitierte sie 2004. Sie war mehrere Jahre Gastprofessorin an der Universität Stettin. 2017 erschien ihr Roman über Komornicka/Włast mit dem Titel Inna od siebie (nominiert für den Warschauer Literaturpreis). Ihr Roman Niebko (Kleine Himmel) und ihr Erzählband Enerdowce i inne ludzie (Ossis und andere Leute) wurden für den Nike-Preis nominiert. Für den Roman Niebko erhielt sie in Wien die „Goldene Eule“. Ihr satirischer Mini-Roman Anioły i świnie w Berlinie (Engel und Schweine) wurde von Janina Szarek auf die Bühne gebracht. Brygida Helbig ist Co-Autorin des Literaturpodcasts Literandka bei Radio Cosmo (RBB). Im WAB-Verlag erscheint bald ihr neuer Roman. B. Helbig bietet Kurse für literarisches Schreiben und Schreib-Mentoring an.

Brygida Helbig – born in Szczecin, is a writer, literary scholar, professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań until 2021, columnist at Radio Cosmo, creative writing coach, and mentor. She has lived in Germany since 1983 and in Berlin since 1994. Helbig studied Slavic and German studies at Ruhr University in Bochum, where she earned her doctorate on Maria Janion, and subsequently worked at the Institute of Slavic Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin. There, she completed her habilitation in 2004 with a work on Maria Komornicka/Piotr Włast (Ein Mantel aus Sternenstaub / Strącona bogini). She served as a visiting professor for several years at the University of Szczecin. Her areas of expertise include contemporary literature, migrant literature, Polish-German literary relations, creative writing, and intercultural communication. In 2017, she published a novel about Komornicka/Włast titled Inna od siebie, which was nominated for the Warsaw Literary Award. Brygida Helbig was nominated twice for the Nike Literary Award: for the novel Niebko (Kleine Himmel) and for the story collection Enerdowce i inne ludzie (Ossis und andere Leute). She received the „Golden Owl” award in Vienna for Niebko. Her satirical novella Anioły i świnie w Berlinie (Engel und Schweine) was adapted for the stage by Janina Szarek. Helbig co-hosts the literary podcast Literandka at Radio Cosmo (RBB) and is a member of the Scientific Council of the University of Three Generations in Berlin. In 2023 and 2024, she served as the director of the Polonia Office. Her new novel will soon be published by WAB. Brygida Helbig offers online courses in literary writing and writing mentorship.
